I became interested in Massage Therapy as a career from a desire to learn alternative and holistic therapies to end chronic pain. I have first hand knowledge of chronic neck and low back pain since my childhood due to a spinal curvature. Since my training in 1995/1996 at Seattle Massage School (now known as Ashmead College) I have taken control of my health and wellness by receiving regular massage therapy and participating in frequent yoga classes. I am thrilled to say now my quality of life has improved greatly and my pain is infrequent and less severe. I feel my personal experience with back pain gives me a deeper understanding of my clients and sharper capabilities with symptom relief.
I have found a deep sense of compassion through my work that allows me to continue to grow and expand my horizons. I have now become a yoga instructor to further assist my clients on their personal path to wellness. Along with building strength and flexibility, a goal of Yoga is learning to breathe properly, which allows Prana (life force) to flow freely through the Nadis (energy channels) calming the body, alleviating depression and anxiety, and bringing nutrients and oxygen to the muscles. I believe that a regular Yoga practice is a perfect companion to regular Massage Therapy to promote well being.
I feel connected and attuned to the body's natural flow and energetic rhythm as I work with clients. I am aware of the Chakras (major energy centers along the spine) and Nadis (lines of energy also known as Chi) and combine my own style of Deep Tissue Massage and Energy Work. I strive for balance in my life and hope to help create balance and harmony for my clients through massage therapy and yoga classes.
During my training at Seattle Massage School, I was part of a hospital internship program working mainly with Oncology patients. I also volunteered at many onsite events doing chair massage and sports massage. I have also continued my education with certification in Aromatherapy and Spa treatments, Sports Massage, Chronic Pain Relief, reflexology and now as a Registered Yoga Teacher. I have worked with many different clients with unique challenges: ballet dancers, yogis and athletes, cancer survivors, people with chronic pain and many folks with hip or knee replacements, people in recovery and those healing from auto accidents and repetitive stress injuries.
